Problem with Backups...

Postby Apota » Sun Aug 13, 2006 05:55

I'm trying to backup a game using dvd2xbox v0.7.6 to my xbox hard drive. The game seems to backup fine and it seems to be running OK from the backup on the xbox hard drive, because I can create a profile after the game loads.

I also want another backup to DVD. So, I FTP'ed all the files from my xbox to my PC using Filezilla. I then use Craxton to create the ISO file and Nero 7 to burn it to DVD-R. The game starts from the DVD-r and says loading and in the process of loading it crashes back to the dashboard before I get to the game profiles.

At what point do you think the problem is at? Is it Craxton and I need to use something else to create the ISO like dvd2xbox? I see that dvd2xbox creates ISOs now. Thanks for the help and time...

ISO size differences...

Postby Apota » Sun Aug 13, 2006 06:16

I created an ISO with Craxton 4 and also dvd2xbox v0.7.6. Why is the size of the ISO files different? With Craxton it's 3.9GBs and with dvd2xbox it's 2.6GBs. Thanks...

the iso mode of dvd2xbox rips the dvd in raw mode which means it rips everything even if there's no "real" data on it. For original games this is always 6,7GB splitted in two files (since fats can't work with files greater than 4gb).
The iso's created with craxtion or qwix are only from the real files and are much smaller and I recommend to use dvd2xbox iso function only if the other programs fail (since you need a DL dvd).
Have a look at X-S if you can find something about your game and/or try qwix maybe it does the trick.

when i backup a movie with the latest version of dvd2xbox it copies the files and when i open them with XBMC the pixles show up in all different colors and is basically impossible to watch. so i tried copying them into ISO files and the playback was perfect except through the movie it suddenly stops, im assuming the rest of the movie is in the other ISO that dvd2xbox made. but xbmc doesnt want to continue playing the movie, it just freezes. i've tried getting it to play the other ISO but with no luck, is i possible to get it to just make one ISO? or how can i get it to copy the disk file-by-file better?

You don't need dvd2xbox to make an ISO out of your DVDs. Put it in your PC and grab software like dvdshrink or similar (don't know all the tools).

i'm a really cheap person, the only computer i have has a 2gig harddrive and the screen shows up in about 16 colors, and doesn't have a dvd drive. how it manages to run XP is beyond me. i dont have the harddrive space and probably lack the other hardware requirements to copy a dvd. which is why my only hope is my xbox
